Map It Out!
In Robotics is essential to know where the objects are so we can give exact commands to the robots so they can find them. Knowing the position of the objects surrounding the space around the robots helps us when coding and giving instructions to the robot.
We know that Bluebot and Cybot have a house, their 'houses' are basically a map for them to navigate and so we have a clear idea where the robot is positioned.
Activity
Material Needed:
-Blank Sheet of Paper
-Pencil, colors, crayons, markers or whatever you feel more confortable drawing.
1. Choose a room in your house
Choose a room in your own house that you know very well, like your own bedroom.
2. Locate the main objects
Walk around the room and write down the main objects you use, choose objects that don't change their location like Doors and Windows.
E.g. bed, chair, desk, wardrobe, doors, windows
3. Map it out!
Draw a map of your room, you can start by drawing a big rectangle and then add the main objects to it.
Make sure to add the location of the main objects properly to the drawing, is it next to the window? Behind the door? etc....
4. Play Treasure Hunt
For this game you need min. 2 participants. The treasure can be anything(toys) you use to hide around the room
One person hides 'the treasure' in the room without the other person knowing where it is.
Mark a big X on the drawn map to show the location of the treasure. We recommend drawing the X with pencil, so you can reuse the map many times to play.
The other person has to find the treasure with the help of the map.
How to make it more challenging?
Mark three X's on the map and let the other figure out which X is the one locating the treasure.
